Mziuri Park is a real and quite famous place in Tbilisi, Georgia. But as every iconic spot in the city. It holds its secrets. What happens in Mziuri when the sun sets and crowds disperse?
This short comic was created for the Georgian comic anthology "Long Dark Night." It's a horror-tinged urban fantasy set in Mziuri Park, a real location in Tbilisi.
In 2015, a devastating flood partially destroyed Mziuri Park (search "Tbilisi flood 2015" for more information). Years later, the damaged area was renovated-today, it looks entirely different from before.
The Ogre and Hippo statues are real too. After the renovation, a memorial installation for the flood victims-the hippo named Begi-was placed almost exactly where the ogre once stood.
Adding to the mystery, there is almost no information available about the ogre statue. If not for two surviving photos online, one might think it never existed at all. Street dogs, another element in the comic, are also a familiar part of urban life in Tbilisi and its parks.
As for other parts of the story - they may or not be real. l'a say it's worth visiting Tbilisi to find out.
